The Arts

St. John Catholic Elementary School is very proud of its performing choir for students in Grades 2 to 6.

The choir is well-known in the community, performing at the following events and festivals:

  • The Annual Canadian Music Festival where the choir won first place at the Grand Finale on February 24, 2012;
  • The Festival of Trees for the past six years;
  • The first Peterborough Tree Lighting Ceremony;
  • Opening for the Peterborough Civic Awards with the singing of O'Canada;
  • School Board's Leadership Award Ceremony;
  • The school's musical production of Broadway North; and
  • Monthly school masses at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.

Giving Back to the Community

During December, the choir performed 15 Christmas songs for the Royal Gardens Retirement Home. Mr. Hilts composed three of the songs. The choir brought Christmas cards made by the Grade 6 class for each resident. Students shared the Spirit of Christmas, and gave each resident three gifts: the gifts of love, kindness and time.
